Become a Mentor

Mentoring has proven to be of the most successful ways to plant seeds of positive change in the lives and actions of disadvantaged youth. Mentoring can take place in a one-on-one, team, or group setting. Mentors offer support, advocacy, guidance, and friendship that have a lifelong impact on the youth they serve. Dire economic circumstances in local communities, neighborhoods, and families in America have increased the risk of more young people being underserved and disadvantaged.

Mentee Information

Young people are more vulnerable to the stress of social changes than ever before. More and more frequently, our youth are presented with opportunities to engage in high-risk behaviors that have tragic, long-term consequences.

What does the research say?

  • Studies show that being matched with an adult mentor DECREASES the likelihood of initiating in drug and alcohol use; and engaging in physical violence and negative behaviors.
  • In addition, youth matched with an adult mentor show an INCREASE in goal setting, expectations and academic performance.
